Alpha Project - 2004

Past Project

The first project, called Alpha Project, (a 1050 sq ft home) was completed and recipient took possession October 1, 2004.

Genesis Homes built the 1050 sq ft home on a lot they owned and they donated the framing labour.  Collin Siddall pledged painting and interior finishing carpentry.  Martin Bobcat & Landscaping donated the landscaping.  Val Appraisals provided four appraisals. Lamoureux & Lawrence provided legal services. Desjardins & Co. donated accounting services.  St Paul Abilities Network paid the fee for the home ownership seminar.  Servus Credit Union approved the financing for the project.

Thank you to ALL who made this project possible.

First Recipient (2004)

Roberta Jones (affectionately known as Bobbi by her family and friends) was a single mother, raising her son Taylor. Taylor was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD when he was five, so this made
it a difficult situation.

Her family and her boss at SPAN, where she devoted her life assisting the disabled, noticed the application information in the paper and encouraged her to apply.

She was living in a house that had recently been flooded so this would give her a fresh start. Bobbi didn’t say much when she was excited but after weeks of awaiting the news, her mother called her on the phone. Bobbi did nothing but giggle. Her mom knew that she was awarded the house.

Bobbi signed the agreements and started making plans about colours and furnishings in October 2004. Sweat equity was required for her down payment: sanding the walls, clearing them of dust, painting them, then completing the landscaping. It was a beautiful little house that they could make their home.

Bobbi loved her home; it suited them very well. It gave her a great deal of independence that helped her be the amazing person she was. It also gave her incentive to help other families. She was one of the founding members of the New Year’s Eve Family Benefit that raised money to help families in crisis.

Bobbi lived there until she became sick in January 2019, and after months in hospital she passed away of cancer in October 2019. Taylor and his spouse had moved to Edmonton shortly before and there, they completed their family of three children. Unfortunately, Taylor passed away from complications with type 1 diabetes in December 2023.

Bobbi’s home was sold to another couple who loved the house and were happy to make it their home.
